A June cold snap had us off fishing.
Robbo made the call the it was time to head north and introduce ourselves to "Surreel", his fathers 47ft Bertram. Snow was forecast throughout the country but we wouldn’t let that dampen the spirits.
Bruffy and I drove up from Auckland early Saturday, picking up chicken legs on the way, nice coffee then it was of up to Kerikeri to load up with food and bait and down to the boat. We were out in the bay by lunch time and were catching some nice snapper for tea. It was too rough to get out wide in search of Hapuka but we had plenty to do in closer. Robbo and I got some nice snapper while bruffy pretty much caught nothing.... poor sod!
Sunday saw us out wide, harnessed up and dragging some nice Hapuka out of the deep. Robbo landed a 26kg fish which was an impressive beast. I landed a couple of tidlers and again bruffy landed nothing but a salami sandwich.
Monday saw conditions too rough to get out wide so we landed a few more snapper for the family and headed for the Marina. Was back in Auckland 6pm... great boat, great weekend
Thanks to Garry and Alison for letting the younguns aboard for the weekend
